GAHHHH! I’m so excited for today’s post and to hear your thoughts! Just for fun, I thought I’d give you a glimpse into my personal life and share some of the future Korpi engagement photos! I’ve debated months about publishing this post because I wasn’t sure if it fit the niche of my blog…or if y’all would necessarily care to read this! But I decided that sharing my personal life makes me more authentic…there truly is a real, human being behind this blog! So I thank you for allowing me to share part of my personal life with you.
So, remember when I had that awesome waterfall style shoot a few months back, and the bohemian -inspired purple-haired shoot? Those sessions were photographed by my friends CJ & Jilane from Resolution Photography! And because I love them so much, I hired them to shoot our wedding! I am SUPER pleased with these photos and am so excited to share them with you!
We started the session at the firehouse because Trevor is a volunteer firefighter in our community. I saw these super cute firehouse engagement photos on Pinterest and wanted to try out something similar!
Stay tuned at the end of the post for a little Q&A about our love story.
We then headed to Door County, WI. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Midwest, Door County is a popular tourist area in Wisconsin known for its cute unique shops, sandy beaches, and beautiful scenery. We took a few shots eating ice cream, frolicking on the beach, overlooking a beautiful scenic overlook, and more.
Just for fun, I thought I’d end this post with the cute details of how we met, the proposal story, and some general FAQs about our love story. Enjoy!
How did you two meet?
Trevor and I met in 2013. We are both from the same hometown, but we didn’t officially meet until I was in college. And if we are being completely honest here, we started talking over social media (#MillennialProbs.) At the time, we lived 4 hours apart in distance. I remember us staying up until 4am texting about our dreams, our thirst for travel, and about our lives in general. It was crazy how much we had in common. After only having talked for a few days, I remember telling my best friend in college that I was “going to marry that guy.”
For one of his jobs, Trevor works as an emergency first responder and he asked me to be his date for his upcoming work banquet. It was sort of a blind date because I barely knew him at all. I figured, what’s the worst that can happen….if it goes bad, I never have to see him again! LOL. So, I drove across the state of Wisconsin for the date and was BEYOND nervous. Wouldn’t you know it, I ended up getting in a minor car accident on the way, nearly missing our date. We ended up getting to the banquet just in time, and had a great time. The next day, Trevor spent a great deal of his time working on my wrecked car with my dad and uncle. I just felt like I knew he was “the one” because he was so calm under stressful situations, and he made the effort to connect with my family. My mom has also shared with me that the day she met him, she knew he was the one I would marry. It’s a fun story to talk about now!
How did he propose?
We were camping in Acadia National Park, Maine, and were hiking up a beautiful bluff with a scenic overlook. I had my back turned and was taking in the view when he reached into his pocket and popped the question, totally taking me off guard! I was so surprised, I didn’t even say yes right away! “Well, is that a yes?” “OF COURSE!!” You can read more about the sweet proposal HERE.
Chelsea, what do you love about Trevor?
“First and most importantly, Trevor has the biggest heart. He is the most loyal, selfless, caring man I have ever met in my life. He is incredibly family and community oriented. I loved that he had a close relationship with his family, and that he was a part of a few awesome community organizations. If you need help with something, he will stop what he’s doing in a heartbeat to attend to your needs. But what attracted me first to Trev was his sense of humor. I have never met anyone else in my life who makes me laugh as much as he does. Trev has brought out the best in me in so many circumstances. First of all, he is incredibly adventurous and encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and see the world. Because of him, I fell in love with travel. There were times when he would spend hours planning fun road trips and I would be hesitant to spend my money on travel, and he would encourage me to spend my money on experiences vs. materialistic things. He genuinely has a thirst for life and cherishes all of the people in it. He is a respected member of our community and dedicates hours upon hours for the fire department and the EMS service. Trev is the most genuine, hardest working person I know, and would do anything for his family. I’m so lucky to be a part of that now. And most importantly, I know that he will be a wonderful father to my children someday.”
Trevor, what do you love about Chelsea?
“The first thing that drew me towards Chelsea was her beauty. She is incredibly beautiful, and physical attraction is what first led me to want to know more about her. However, love is much more than physical attraction. Although her beauty is one of the things I love about her, what I love the most is her heart. Chelsea will put others before herself so often. She puts me before herself on a daily basis, and for that I can never repay her. Chelsea is also a very intelligent person, and she is very easy to communicate with. This is so important when preparing to spend the rest of your life with someone. While we do have our fair share of arguments, we keep them short, and are always able to hold an intelligent conversation and solve the problem. I do not take this quality of hers for granted, as it is such an important part of a relationship between two people. Chelsea spends a lot of time babysitting children, and I have watched her love pour out for these kids. I cannot even begin to imagine how deep her love will be for our own children someday. For 25 years, I always told myself and my family that I would never have kids. Then one day on that 25th year, I went on a date with Chelsea. Shortly after that day, my thoughts on children changed drastically. I am very excited to marry Chelsea next year, but I am even more excited to watch her become the mother of my children someday. I am without a doubt the luckiest man in the world.”
What does your future look like together as a married couple?
I will be graduating from my school counseling MSE graduate program next December, and Trev will still be involved with the community working for the EMS squad and volunteering with the fire department, along with working full time at his family business. Eventually, we will also be looking to buy a house! Our dream is to have two kids, sooner than later, after I start my career. Most importantly, we can’t wait to start a family. But all in due time!
Also, as you read this post, you may be thinking that my life is picture perfect. I want to make a clear point to say that not all relationships are perfect, and that as a couple, we have definitely had our fair share of trials. As I’m sure some of you can attest to, relationships are HARD WORK. It takes respect, commitment, and communication from BOTH partners. It’s about cherishing the good moments while not giving up when things get tough. It’s about staying strong when you feel fragile and leaning on each other for support. It’s about respecting each others’ differences and embracing their flaws. It’s about loving the person exactly as they are without trying to change the major parts to them. Ultimately, it’s about friendship and unconditional love, through thick and thin.
To my single readers who may be thinking that a “perfect” relationship is unattainable, you are exactly right! There is NO such thing as a perfect relationship. I encourage you to never stop searching for that special someone who will treat you how you deserve to be treated- with respect, honor, dignity, and love.
You deserve the world. You are SO worthy.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post, and for all of your support. We love and appreciate you all!
