Guns N' Roses in Nashville |

OMG guys!!!

It’s legit been forever since I’ve had a Travel Diary post, and I’m so sorry for that! The truth is that lately we’ve been pretty stagnant here in Wisconsin, but no worries! I’m here to share with you today the deets about our weekend trip to Nashville to see the one and only freakin’ GUNS N’ ROSES for their Not In This Lifetime tour!!

Where to begin. From the moment we purchased the tickets, I cried. I actually cried. I am such a fan and couldn’t believe that I was about to witness such a historical event with the GNR reunion. In case you aren’t a huge rock fan, this is a huge deal because lead singer Axl Rose is basically a major headcase and the group has a long history of breaking up and getting in hissy girl fights. No one ever thought that Slash would join Axl again on stage.

How do I even begin to explain my obsession?! I’m such a huge fan. Sweet Child O’ Mine is my favorite song and Trev and I plan on walking out during the reception of our wedding to Welcome to the Jungle. I’ve jammed out to GNR so many times in my car and actually had never been to a rock concert before (so far, all country concerts) so I was really excited for the brand new experience.

A Spontaneous Road Trip

The best part about this trip was that it was totally spontaneous. We decided in June to purchase the tickets for birthday presents to each other (my birthday is in June; Trevor’s is in July.) Since the concert was at Nissan stadium in Nashville, we decided that there was no such thing as a bad seat in the house, so we purchased nosebleeds for only $45. And let me tell you, I thought our seats were still amazing!!!

We left for Nashville Friday afternoon and arrived Saturday morning. I’ve been to Nashville before, but I was only 20 years old and never had the “true” Nashville experience, as I like to call it. Ironically, Nashville was the first place that Trevor and I ever road tripped to when we first starting dating, but the trip was kind of a fail because we didn’t know how to plan trips back then. I couldn’t get into any bars hence the underage, and we didn’t really have much of an itinerary. We spent many hours in our hotel Googling stuff, which wasn’t very cool. As much as I’d like to say it’s fun to be spontaneous, we are firm believers that it’s best to plan ahead when you travel.

My Passion for Music

Any who, Saturday afternoon we spent our time bar hopping before the concert, and just had a blast. I love EVERYTHING about Nashville; I honestly think that it may be my favorite city in the whole world. (It’s a close tie with Chicago or NYC. Gah I can’t pick!!) But Nashville really has a special place in my heart because it’s the music capital of the country and music has always been such a huge part of my life. Not only because I love country music, but because music has been my therapy for so long. Honestly, if I could change one thing about myself, I wish that I could sing or play guitar to channel this passion. I loved every second in Nashville; just strolling down Broadway and taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the city was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Being a northern gal from Wisconsin, I’m a huge fan of the south and just being a part of the southern atmosphere. I can’t get enough of those southern accents.

Chris Stapleton opened, and he was amazing! At one point he mentioned during his performance, “If you would have told me as a kid that I’d open for Guns N’ Roses, I’d have called you a liar.” I teared up!!! We take for granted the thought that when we attend concerts, we get to witness watching someone’s dream come true. I love thinking about that.

What I Wore

Of course I have to mention to y’all what I wore. I wore a throwback Guns N’ Roses tee, some sequined black shorts, and patriotic flats from Walmart (only $6!!) that I received SO many compliments on from random peeps!!

Guns N’ Roses Review

I don’t even think I can describe how amazing the concert was. They put on an amazing show. Axl Rose, who is known as one of the greatest singers of all time because of his amazing voice range, still has it. I mean, DANG the man can sing. And don’t even get me started about Slash. That dude is a GOD. Watching him play guitar brought me to tears; he’s THAT amazing. It was just awesome. In addition, past drummer for GNR Steven Adler made a surprise appearance and played a few songs with the band. Axl referred to him as his “brother” despite past differences they’ve had in the past, which was cool. Not going to lie, half of me was just waiting for Axl to get hissy and walk off stage (he’s done that before in the past at concerts.) But luckily nothing like that happened; I read a report after the concert that “all band members are getting along great!” I can’t even describe to you the experience. Like I mentioned, I’m so happy that I was able to see one of the greatest bands of all time play together for what could be the last tour ever. As I’m sitting here writing this, I feel an emptiness because I know that I’ll never get to experience this ever again!

They played all the fan favorites; Sweet Child O’ Mine, November Rain, Civil War, My Michelle, Welcome to the Jungle, Live and Let Die, lots more, and ended with Paradise City. The concert was longer than expected, ended at midnight (and starting at 8pm). There were fireworks when they opened and closed as well. Pure epicness. After the concert wasn’t the greatest time; trying to find an Uber and cab was nearly impossible. We had to wait until 1:30am until we could finally snag one, and the stupid Uber ended up costing us $60 just to get to our hotel because demand was so high. You should have seen how swamped Nashville was after that concert!!

The only “complaint” I guess I had about the concert itself was that people all around us were SITTING!!! Trev and I probably ticked some people off because we were blocking their view and rocking out…but C’MON PEOPLE. This is a ROCK concert. I’m not sure if this is just a culture thing, but in Wisconsin, if the concert had been at Lambeau field, there wouldn’t have been a single person sitting in that stadium.

All in all, the concert was an amazing experience. It wasn’t the absolute crazy, moshpit experience I expected, but I had the time of my life. I was super excited to blog and reminisce about it. I would love to hear if you have ever seen Guns N’ Roses play, and if you are fans of the band!

Oh…and this Monday. One word. #Rough.

  • I’m not going to lie. I’m a little bit envious reading this because Guns ‘n Roses and Nashville?!? Two of my dreams! I bet that was one epic concert! Your seats looked amazing and your outfit was perfection!

I’m from Georgia and we dance and drink and get out of our seats at concerts so i’m not sure what was going on Nashville but it sounds like it was out of this world!

    • Thanks so much, Leslie! We had a blast. I think maybe we just were around a bad crowd!! lol

  • Theresa

That is such an awesome experience! Nashville is the perfect place to see your favorite band.

  • Lindsay Katherine

I can totally feel your energy in this post!!! I’m so thrilled you and Trevor planned this impromptu trip to see your favorite band – they were just in Chicago when I was down there for my friend’s wedding and I thought of you : ) Justin used to sing Sweet Child Of Mine to Ginny when she was a tiny baby – I’m sure you’ll do the same to yours in the future. I also think the nosebleeds seats can actually be better than seats close up because you can see everything. Your outfit was PERFECTION, but I’m not surprised.

    • How sweet is that!!!! And aw, thank you. We originally wanted to go to the Chicago show because it was closer but we didn’t want to miss 4th of July weekend; we are usually up north.

  • Sweet Child o’ Mine is one of my faves, too!! And GIRL. Your Snapstory of the time was so good. Nashville is AMAZING!!! I went for spring break my senior year in college to meet blogger friends for the first time and it was the most amazing weekend ever. EVER. Such a cool city!!!

  • Allie Bigoness

Sounds like you had an awesome time! I recently saw The Who in May as my birthday present to my boyfriend. We also had nose bleeders and they were great seats. It’s all about the music anyways. It’s definitely amazing to get the opportunity to see great rock legends. Next on my list is the Stones.

    • That’s so awesome. My God, I’d love to see the Stones!!

  • Greta Hollar

I’m glad you enjoyed your visit and the concert! You’ll have to come back and visit again soon.
