Looking for a way to spice up your winter wardrobe? Here's my tutorial on how to pair neutrals.

Hi friends!

I’m super excited about this post because this might be my favorite shoot yet. Even though I’m still a little depressed that I’m back in snowy Wisconsin after an amazing Florida retreat, I’m really excited about this fun outfit.

I’ve always been a fan of neutrals. I think that wearing varying shades of black and white instantly gives off a more sophisticated look. But how do you pair them without looking too washed out or too overdone?

1.) Go for patterns

When I saw this sweater from Charlotte Russe, I immediately knew that I HAD to have it. Although this sweater is very simple in neutral tones, it also gives off an edgy look because of the sharp angles and shapes that add depth and contrast.

2.) Don’t be afraid to break the brown & black rule

One of my best friends was obsessed with calling out others who wore brown and black (if you’re reading this, I love you, Dea!). I think the brown and black rule has run it’s course! For this outfit, I clearly paired black with with beige- brown, and the pairing adds a touch of confidence.

The fedora itself is breaking down the brown & black rule!

There is a lot of controversy about the mustard yellow color, but I’m a huge fan. These high wasted jeggings are slimming and are instantly my new favorite pair of jeans. I’ve been able to pair them with so many different outfits.

I paired it with these adorable brown boots from Charlotte as well.

3.) Own your look

I’m that girl who’s usually overdressed if she ever has an event to go to, but I’d rather be overdressed than underdressed! It took me many years to master the art of being confident. It might be scary to pair so many neutrals together at once, but it’s not if you own your look! One of my favorite bloggers, Molly from Style Miss Molly, says, “The confidence you have on the inside will shine brighter than any sparkle or color.” Love that girl! Wise words. OWN your style. Confidence is key!

Living in the north, I tend to get seasonal depression disorder. The lack of Vitamin D affects my body chemistry, especially since I quit tanning. However, although Winter can sometimes be drab, it doesn’t have to affect my style. Thanks to Charlotte Russe and a few of my other favorite stores, winter fashion has me so excited this year. Oh, and did I mention how pretty these neutrals look in the snow?

These pictures are absolutely stunning. Every time I shop at Charlotte I think “oooh, this would look so cute on Chels!” Those high waisted pants look so amazing on you, and I’m all about mixing neutrals. I even consider leopard print a neutral! I also love mixing metals with my accessories. You are perfection from head to toe.

    Love love love that Cardi!

  • Fun combo! I really love beige and black, although I find that when I wear them, it has to be with jeans; I can’t seem to pair them with other colors! I have a sweater like that that is my FAVE. It looks stylish and a little dressy, but takes no effort to make the outfit 😉

    • I love beige too!! My new favorite color (:

  • LOVE this outfit, especially the sweater and the hat. And the black and brown rule is something I’m always breaking; I actually think they look awesome together when paired up the right way!

    • Thank you so much, Chels! Glad you agree (:
