As the year is drawing to a close, I’ve been thinking about what really matters to me in my life. I feel like 2015 was truly the year of introspection for me. I had a lot of big changes in my life. I got engaged, traveled more than I ever have, and starting my counseling graduate program. My words to live by this year were “Live your life” and I truly feel that I lived more fully than I ever have before.

It’s no secret that life is hard and that we all get thrown curve balls every now and then. It’s taken a great deal of energy and patience to learn about what I CAN control in life and what I CANNOT. My fiancé is an EMT and I have learned that tomorrow is not always guaranteed. We try our best to live every moment of our life and to not take a second for granted, which is inspiring this post today.

What Inspires You?

I named my blog Inspiration Indulgence for a reason. To me, there is no better feeling than feeling inspired; the feeling that I am in control of my destiny. I love waking up bright-eyed and eager to start my day. I gather inspiration from a variety of things; from my fiancé, my family, my travels, and my education. My mission with my blog has always been to inspire my readers to live their best and most fulfilling life. I have had absolutely amazing mentors, teachers, friends and family members who have inspired me, and I aspire to do the same.

The Year of YOU

When Abbott approached me to help spread the word about their LIFE. TO THE FULLEST. mission and their own personal #fullospophy, I knew it was the perfect fit for my blog and myself as a person.

What is #fullosophy? It’s your own unique way of living that gets you to your fullest. What makes you the most joyful, peaceful and hopeful? Your #fullosophy is at the heart of who you really are, and it helps you become your best possible self. How we get to that place is different for each of us. It’s personal – but the quest to achieve our best life is what we all have in common no matter who we are or where we live. My #fullosophy is to live in the moment, have no regrets, love passionately, and never take a second for granted.

You can also head over to Abbott LIFE. TO THE FULLEST quiz to help you determine what fulfills you most. My family will always come first, but after the people in my life, the answer was travel for me.

Speaking of travel….here’s my take on why traveling inspires me to be a better person and is a part of my personal #fullosophy.

What inspires me to live my best life?

First off I want to say that PEOPLE will always first before anything in my life, but after my family and friends, travel inspires me the most. As most of my loyal readers know by know, I am extremely passionate about traveling and encouraging others to get out there and explore the world. I believe that traveling feeds and nourishes one’s soul. Because I am well-traveled, I am also cultured, educated, and have new awarenesses and worldviews. I want to inspire others to attain this; to get out there, see the world, and jump outside of their comfort zone.

Seeing new cultures; whether I am visiting new towns, cities, or countries, there is always something to learn. I am passionate and naturally curious about what else is out there besides the narrow-minded world that I live in. Just a small-town girl, (cue the Journey song), I was open to a whole new world in college when I started to travel. Many people didn’t understand why I was always spending my money instead of saving it, but I know for a fact that these are experiences that I will never regret. (A special shoutout to my fiancé, who was the one who really encouraged me to spend my money on experiences when I was apprehensive to.) He planted the travel fire deep within my soul.

If we are getting specific, I’m just going to throw out there some of the most amazing things I have ever seen; experiences that I wouldn’t trade for the world:

Seeing Times Square for the first time
-Watching the sun set on the Grand Canyon
-Riding in a chair lift above Jersey Shore
-Hearing live music in Nashville
Chilling with Jimmy Fallon at Madame Tussard’s wax museum
-Swimming in the chilly north Atlantic off the coast of Maine
-Experiencing the vastness of the Badlands
-Paying my respects at the 9/11 memorial
-Seeing the White House in person
Watching the Red Sox play in Boston
Conquering Mount Evans
-Crossing the Canadian border to see Niagara Falls
-Having breakfast on the beach in San Diego

-Having a drink on the John Hancock roof top in Chicago

There are so many beautiful things to see out there. Why would anybody want to see the same view ever single day?

What are you going to do to live your most fulfilling life in 2016?

So now that you heard my story and what keeps me inspired, I want to hear yours. What inspires you? What kind of footprints do you want to leave? Ultimately, what are you going to do to create your most meaningful life in 2016? We always say that we will “start fresh tomorrow,” or we will “do it later.” Well, guess what. “Later” is not always guaranteed. Your time is now.

Tomorrow on the blog I’ll be talking about my goals for 2016. Stay tuned! They align with my #fullopsophy 😉

Congratulations on your engagement!! Woo hoo!! Traveling is also a passion of mine. I need it just as much as I need the air I breathe. It truly has a way of changing you for the better. The Grand Canyon was so inspiring to me. This might be a lofty goal, but I’d love to see it again in 2016. Happy New Year!

    • No goal is too lofty! I hope you are able to get out there again! :) Cheers to 2016!

It is indeed nice to travel. Looking forward to do that next year. And congratulations! May you have a year full of love. <3

    • Thank you so much!! xo Best of luck to you in 2016 as well!

  • I completely agree with everything you had to say. I’m so passionate about seeing the world and learning about different cultures (and yourself in the process) is so inspiring.

    Happy New Year,

    • For sure. I’m so glad we have that to bond over <3

Hubby and I love to travel and experience new things. One of the most breathtaking visits was to the OK City bombing memorial. Bodega Bay at sunset, striking! The Mesa’s of NM, beauty overload!

    • Wow! Thank you for the list! I would LOVE to see all of those sites.

  • Kaci Alvarez

I completely agree! I just started traveling this past year and have fallen in love. I’m so passionate about learning about other people and cultures! Thanks for sharing!

    • That’s so awesome, Kaci! I’m so happy that you have been able to get out and see different cultures!

“I believe traveling nourishes your soul.” oooooh, I love that Chelsea! Beautifully written. I’m proud of you and inspired by your commitment to live out your philosophy of life; it’s an inspiration to everyone who reads your blog. It’s very refreshing that you stood firm for what you knew you wanted – to always travel – in spite of what others may have said about how you spent your money, and it must make you feel so comforted that Trevor supported you all the way. I, like you, am also inspired by education. In the future when my kids are in school, I want to pursue more education – whether my doctorate (a long time dream of mine), another masters, or taking classes for the sake of learning, I will always be a lifelong learner.

    • Lindsay- this doesn’t surprise me at all! I can totally see you pursuing your doctorate and reaching higher. “I will always be a lifelong learner.” I know this to be SO true about you, and about myself.

I love this! I actually had the same motto for 2015, adding a little more yes! in my life. I traveled all over the midwest and up north in the U.S. Went to Florida and swam with manatees which makes me appreciate life even more. I’m wanting to start backpacking so that in the next year or two I can backpack through the AT. Traveling does make me feel alive! When I get down, I don’t get lathargic, I just want to get in my car and travel! Thanks for sharing this. To be inspired is wonderful, and you are inspiring to me!

    • Aw Maggie, what a wonderful, thoughtful response! I loved reading it and I LOVE hearing how much traveling has inspired you. I would also love to swim with manatees someday…

  • Congrats on your engagement! I couldn’t agree with you more – I love traveling too for all the many reasons you have listed, it certainly makes one a better person and encourages me to appreciate life more! Looking forward to your 2016 goals! :)

    • Exactly; I truly feel traveling makes me a better person! Thank you so much, girl!

  • What a great post.
Traveling inspires me as well and I hope to do more of it this year.

    xoxo, Jenny
