I have always been extremely inspired by Tribe Kelley, a clothing line founded by Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley and wife Brittney Kelley. Originally a Florida Georgia Line fan, I followed Brian and his relationship with Brittney on Instagram for quite some time. I was ecstatic when I learned that the two of them were starting a clothing line together.
Over the past couple of years, I watched Tribe Kelley evolve from a company to a movement. I was in love with the refreshing free-spirited nature of the line, and grew to research the company’s values. I was surprised and very happy to learn that all of the Tribe’s pieces are made in the United States. All Tribe Kelley pieces are rich with Brittney’s Native American roots that encourage uniqueness and individuality. In addition, several of the trinkets and headpieces are even hand-made by United States veterans. In today’s fast-paced, money-driven society, you don’t find too many companies now with those home-grown, respectable, all-American values.
You can imagine by excitement when I was able to get in touch with Brittany for an interview.
Like, I’m talking fan-girling, jumping up and down in my kitchen excited!
Even before Tribe Kelley launched, I was a huge fan of Brittney. Not only is she a fashion icon of the 21st century, she radiates positivity, self-love, and confidence. Everything I aspire to be.
She agreed to answer a few questions for y’all!
What is one piece of advice you would give to young women? .
“Always walk down the path less traveled and feed your soul positivity. My favorite story is that of two wolves passed on by the Native Americans. Everyone has two wolves that travel along side their path. One wolf represents all of the good. This wolf is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, kindness, empathy, truth, compassion & faith. The other wolf represents all the evil on your path. This wolf is anger, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, lies, and ego. The big question is which wolf wins? The answer is simple, the wolf you feed the most wins.
This story is so important because everyone is traveling a unique path, but each of us experiences the good wolf and the bad wolf along the way. We have to choose to only feed the good wolf so that our soul radiates positivity. As a young woman you must choose to be the light and shed the light on others.”
Top 3 favorite places you have ever visited/traveled to?
“I don’t know if I can narrow it down to just 3. The first 3 amazing destinations that come to mind are Bora Bora in French Polynesia, Costa Rica, & Switzerland. Some other amazing places I’ve been are Guatemala, Nova Scotia, London, Italy, Ireland, Scotland & Sweden. I have been fortunate to travel as much as I have at age 25. My first trip out of the country was when I was 20 years old to London, England to study Photography & Literature at the University of London. I wrote tons of essays to get accepted in this study abroad program and knew after London that travel was a part of spirit. My next few trips would be to Guatemala for mission trips, and I then became inspired to start my first jewelry/clothing called, Wondertown when I was at the University of Georgia.”
How do you personally get inspired?
“I am inspired mostly when I am traveling. Seeing so many different walks of life and culture is truly addicting & refreshing in the same sense. It is so intriguing to observe the stylistic wardrobe choices of others, especially those that we may consider foreign to our cultural norms. Cuts, colors, geometry, words, feelings, stories; it all inspires me.”
Who is your ultimate fashion icon?
“One particular person doesn’t come to mind. I believe any female willing to express herself exactly the way she feels is my fashion icon.”
Do you have any advice for creative entrepreneurs looking to grow their brand?
“I believe you should pursue whatever dream you may have. But one thing I know is for sure: The dream is free, but the hustle is sold separately.”
What is ONE THING you want the world to know about Brittney Kelley?
“I am merely a vessel & I hope that I can shine some light while I’m here. God is good.”
Brittney’s answers made me tear up. She speaks so intricately and beautifully; I am SO inspired by her words and her wisdom. I truly cannot thank her enough for being a part of this post and for opening her heart to us all. Any beautiful woman in the world can start a clothing line, but it takes an intelligent, passionate, and heartfelt individual to make it successful.
