The One Thing You (1)

It’s been a while since I’ve done a travel post.

I’ll admit, at first I almost threw in the towel to my traveling posts all together. Last week, I was feeling a bit discouraged with my blog until I re-visited my mission and focused on my intentions. I didn’t want to completely rid my travel posts because travel is a huge part of who I am, but I wasn’t sure how my travel posts fit into my mission of Inspiration Indulgence.

That’s when I really soul-searched and came to the conclusion that I am going to keep my travel posts. Why? Because my mission here at Inspiration Indulgence is to inspire, and part of that inspiration is to inspire you to get out there and see what this beautiful world has to offer. Even for those readers who don’t travel, I hope this post encourages you to see the world differently than you do now. I just to inspire you that beauty is everywhere, but it’s up to you to take advantage of it.

Anywho, many of you know about my huge East Coast Roadtrip that Trevor and I took at the end of August per my Instagram. I shared the most exciting part of the trip two weeks ago when I shared with you all my engagement while we stopped in Maine, and today I’m here to show you more of our trip!

Stop #1: Niagara Falls

To recap, Trevor and I left Wisconsin on August 28th and headed to Acadia National Park, Maine. Along the way, we stopped at Niagara Falls. After visiting Maine, we hit Seaside Heights New Jersey, Boston, and Washington D.C. on the way back. This post is specifically about Niagara Falls; stay tuned for the other posts later!

Niagara Falls was always on my bucket list. I have a thing for waterfalls. When I was a little girl, my dad would take us on little adventure hikes up north in Wisconsin to look at waterfalls. I just loved how peaceful and serene they were. That being said, I was really excited to see the globe’s second largest waterfall in person.

Just for the heck of it, we decided to see the Falls from both the Canadian side and the side on American soil in New York. We did this because we in part just wanted to say we had been to Canada (both of us had never been to Canada before!) We were a little nervous about the border patrol, but everything turned out fine.

Here are the pictures I snapped from Niagara Falls- Canada side.

Next, we drove a hop-skip to the New York side. I personally thought this side had better views (‘Murica!) but it was equally as cool to see as the Canadian side. In my wildest imagination I just couldn’t picture how vast the Falls were.

The One Thing You HAVE To Do When Visiting Niagara Falls

Okay. Finally, the part I’ve been waiting to tell you about. When we were overlooking the Falls on the Canadian side, we noticed that there were boat tours down below that were getting up close to the falls. I told Trevor that it would be cool if we could do that, but I wasn’t sure how expensive it would be.

The boat tours were offered on the New York side of the Falls. It was called the Maid of Mist tour. We paid just $17 per ticket, were given a poncho, and stood in a long line to go on this tour.

Let me just say. COOLEST. EXPERIENCE. EVER!!!!!!!!!!

The following pictures are from when we were waiting in line for the boat tour. We were suspended above the Falls, which also provided great views and picture taking opportunities. That little boat you see is obviously the boat we took to get near the Falls.

We were NOT prepared for our soaked we would get! We only took pictures in the beginning of the tour because it was seriously like a hurricane!

The best part was seeing this fabulous view.

I would by FAR recommend the Maid of the Mist tour. The Maid got so close to the falls that I seriously felt like I was in the middle of a hurricane. You can probably tell from these pictures that we got absolutely SOAKED. It was so much fun and well-worth the money. I would recommend the Maid of the Mist tour to anyone!!

I can’t wait to share with you all more of our trip in the next coming weeks. Stay tuned, and thank you for reading! I hope this post inspires you to get out there and travel! 😉

Xoxo,

Check out the other posts from my East coast road trip!
Adventuring Acadia National Park, Maine…Oh, and I’m Engaged!

  • I always wonder if tours like that are worth it. They always seem to be hit or miss, and I’m so glad this was a hit!! I will keep that in mind if I ever end up at the falls. Gorgeous pictures, girl!!

    • Chelsea

Thank you Brittany! I’m a firm believer that tours are worth it. Trevor and I are tour junkies- we feel we get so much out of them than if we were to try and navigate and experience it for ourselves.

  • I’ve seen the tours in movies and TV shows, but I’ve never heard anyone talk about them in real life. Now that I read your post I know it is a MUST! Beautiful pictures too! :)

    • Chelsea

It’s totally awesome, girl! Thanks so much!

  • saralafountain

Congrats on your engagement! What beautiful photos. I have never been to Niagara Falls, but I really would love to visit. It is just so gorgeous!

    • Chelsea

Thank you! I hope you get the chance to go someday!!

  • Becky @Disney in your Day

I’m so glad you are still doing travel posts – I love them! Niagara Falls is definitely on my bucket list – we are about an 8 hour drive so we really need to get up there for a long weekend. My parents went last year and also did the maid of the mist and loved it!

    • Chelsea

Aw thank you Becky! That really means a lot to me to hear that from a reader. I’m never sure if my readers actually really enjoy them or not. So cool to hear your parents did that- I would definitely do it again!

  • Maya Zecic

    This is so
awesome. My husband and I went to the Niagara Fall on the Canadian side last year in September. We live in Georgia (southern folk lol) and I did not expect to freeze to death. I knew the joke was on me when I stepped out into the Buffalo airport in sandals. A lady even asked me if I was from the south. Anyway. We did the boat ride and we went behind the falls too and it was definitely amazing. Nature is pretty awesome. I loved seeing the signed pictured of all the famous people that walked behind the falls too.

    • Chelsea

LOL!!! That’s hilarious!! I’m so glad you had the opportunity to go! (:

  • So fun! We went last week and did the American side Maid of the Mist tour as well. Lol, my profile pic is actually that ridiculous yet much needed poncho… :)

    • Chelsea

LOL!!! Your profile picture totally just made my day! I love it and I’m so happy you had the opportunity to go!

  • Your pictures are amazing! Looks like it was a great trip. Niagara Falls is definitely on my bucket list. :-)

    • Chelsea

      Thanks so much, Tabitha!

  • So fun! We just visited the Falls (Canada side) this summer and loved it! We did take our littles, so we skipped the boat ride and will definitely need to go back to do that too! It was fun watching the little boats disappear into the mist of the falls! :)

    • Chelsea

Exactly. It was just the coolest sight ever. I couldn’t believe how large the Falls were!

  • Those pictures are so incredibly beautiful. I’ve always wanted to go to Niagara Falls

    • Chelsea

I hope you can go! It’s totally worth the long drive if you live far away.

  • Such a cool trip! I have been wanting to go with Cory, but he has already been there, so I need to work on my convincing skills more! haha

    • Chelsea

Make him go with you! Otherwise, plan a girls trip (:

  • I’ve yet to get to Niagara Falls, even though my husband is from an hour away from there! Great photos.

    • Chelsea

      Thanks girl! (:

  • I love Niagara Falls! I haven’t been in years though. The last time we went was with my grandparents and they had zero interest in being on a boat that close to the falls haha It’s definitely on my bucket list with my husband though!

    • Chelsea

hahaha yeah luckily my fiance is pretty adventurous; we had a blast!!

  • I actually haven’t been to the American side of the falls (being Canadian) but I love our side! (ps: plan a weekend and stay in Niagara on the Lake and visit the wineries, it’s just a quick hop across the border)

I haven’t done the maid of the mist since I was a kid but I remember it being AWESOME. I remember being in awe of just how close we got to the falls! it was so cool. Glad you had fun on your first visit to Canada :)

    • Chelsea

Thanks for the tip, Laura! I loved visiting Canada. I’d like to go back eventually and drive across the country.

  • Shann Eva

We went to Niagara Falls when I was a kid. I remember it being such an awesome trip. We also took a Maid of the Mist tour! I should look into taking my kids there now. Thanks for the great reminder.

    • Chelsea

Aw I’m so happy you did this! It was totally worth the money :)

  • I did the same boat tour about a year ago and it was soooo fun, but you’re right, you get SOAKED. I was attempting to take photos with my phone through a plastic bag haha

    • Chelsea

Haha that’s what my fiance did!! Glad you had fun!!

  • I’ve never been, but I would definitely want to go on the boat tour. And from the sounds of it, the ponchos are completely necessary, haha!

    • They totally are!! We got soaked!!

  • I went to Niagara Falls when I was little, and I totally agree! SO worth it. I also highly recommend going to the Canadian side (which you did!) because then you can see BOTH sets of falls, not just horseshoe falls.

    • I hope I get the chance to go back someday. It was just so amazing.
