As sad as this sounds, I was thinking the other day how grateful I am for my iPhone. But seriously, not only does it allow me to communicate with others, my apps are literally lifesavers!! Technology truly fascinates me. It has significantly improved my life by helping me more organized, healthy, and wiser with my money. I have complied a list of apps that every 20-something NEEDS to have! Here are my top picks. I hope that you find them useful!
1.) MyFitnessPal– free (iPhone & Android)
Fitness & Nutrition
This is by far my favorite fitness app. As you age in your 20s, let’s face it. You aren’t the skinny little bitch that you were in high school. MyFitnessPal is a great tool to keep track of your health. It allows you to look up virtually any food and drink, (I have yet to find a brand that wasn’t in the system), scan it, and get the nutrition labels. In addition, the app helps you set fitness goals and keeps you on track. You can log your daily calories, weight, exercise and more. MyFitnessPal has literally been a lifesaver for me!
2.) Mint– free (iPhone & Android)
Mint is a budgeting app that I recently just downloaded. I have fiddled around with many budgeting apps throughout the past few months, and feel that this one works best for me. What I like about Mint is that it helps you budget in very simple and easy terms. For a beginner who has never made a budget before, it’s easy to set up and understand. It syncs with your bank account while keeping your information private and completely safe. So easy!
3.) Uber– free (iPhone)
Most of you have probably heard of Uber before, but if you haven’t, you need to download it NOW. Uber is a great way to catch a private driver for transportation. You simply pay with your card via the app so there’s no worries if you don’t have cash on you! Available in more than 50 countries, it’s basically a cheaper form of a cab. I’m from a small town, but I’ve found it extremely useful when visiting big cities and needing transportation. In fact, Cab companies lately have been really ticked off about this because of its immense popularity. And hey, I wouldn’t choose a cab if I can find something cheaper!
4.) GasBuddy– free (iPhone & Android)
GasBuddy simply allows you to track gas prices and help you find the cheapest prices nearest you. In addition, if you report gas prices, you earn points that can lead to some pretty fabulous rewards. You also have a chance to win $100 of gas every day!
5.) Aviary– free (iPhone & Android)
I have over four photo editing apps on my phone, and Aviary is my favorite. I like it because it provides many creative options to play with your pictures. It’s simple and easy to use, and provides many dynamic enhancements and effects for photos. It has a large array of fun things you can add such as frames, stickers, and text. It’s great for bloggers, photographers, and Instagram addicts. 😉
6.) DailyConnect– $4.99 (iPhone & Android)
If you have small children, DailyConnect is a great app that allows you to know how their day is going when you’re at work. It allows caregivers and parents to communicate throughout the day. You can record a large variety of events throughout the child’s day that include but are not limited to feedings, naps, diapers, milestones, and moods. In addition, you can upload pictures and write personal messages. Very useful! I used it as a nanny but I’m sure when I have kids in my late 20s I wouldn’t mind using it again!
7.) My Cycles Period and Ovulation Tracker– free (iPhone & Android)
(Sorry men- this one isn’t for you!)
This app allows you to track your periods and ovulation cycle. It’s extremely useful because you can learn your body better and know if something is irregular. This can help you plan vacations around your periods (bonus!) and also know when to either try to conceive or use protection. It’s always a smart idea to know your body!
8.) Shopkick-free (iPhone & Android)
Do you shop? Earn points for walking into some of your favorite stores, like Target, Best Buy, and Macy’s and redeem them for FREE gift cards! Coupons and deals are also available. A MUST HAVE for the shop-aholic!
9.) MyWater– free (iPhone)
Did you know that 66% of people do not drink enough water in a day? I know that I don’t! When I was in college, my roommate bought me a jug just so I could be forced to drink more water. Sometimes I just completely forget to and don’t drink any until right before I go to bed! This app helps you track your water consumption throughout the day. You can set individual goals and see your progress. What I like about it the most is that you can set useful reminders . . . this has helped me get my butt into gear! Water is SO important to your health—make sure you are drinking enough!
10.) Any.Do– free (iPhone & Android)
Any.Do is a task organizer where you can make to-do lists. It’s nifty because you can organize all of your personal and work projects in one spot. I like it because I can make lists for today, tomorrow, and upcoming days. No more having to lose your to-do list or having to constantly scribble notes down-it’s all in one clean space. Once you complete a task, it erases with a click of a button.
11.) iTrackMyTime– $1.99 (iPhone)
Are you a procrastinator? Are you so busy that you don’t know how you can possibly fit everything in a day? This app will help you prioritize your tasks and improve your time management skills. It allows you to visually see how much time you are putting into your daily activities. You can log in school work, working out, hanging with friends, anything.
12.) Pandora– free (iPhone & Android)
I’m sure you’ve heard of Pandora, but it allows you to stream music for free, with the occasional commercial interruptions. You can search any “station” that is similar to an artist you like. For example, if I search for Guns N Roses, Pandora will play Guns N Roses and other similar artisits. It’s great for parties if you want music in the background in a certain genre.
